Brent Crowley

Dear Family and Friends,

Six years ago Brent was diagnosed with melanoma on the top of his head.  After 2 surgeries (one to remove the melanoma and the other to reconstruct the area) Brent was given a clean bill of health.  He continued to follow the doctors' orders by getting scans for the first year and annual visits to his dermatologist afterwards.
Recently Brent noticed a lump below his clavicle bone that increasingly grew larger.  He went to the doctor and they referred him to get a scan as they were unsure of what the mass was.  While waiting for his  scan to take place, Brent started experiencing headaches and some dizziness.  After multiple scans and medical tests, Brent was diagnosed with stage IV melanoma.  He has multiple tumors in his brain, lung, soft tissue, etc.  Doctors are pretty confident that this cancer is a reoccurrence of his melanoma but we won't know for sure until the pathology tests are complete.  

We are all trying to process this devastating news.  Brent was admitted to the UW Hospital yesterday and the immediate next step is surgery (hopefully tomorrow or Thursday) to remove the largest of the brain tumors.  Once we receive pathology results, Brent's Oncology team will come up with a plan that will likely include immunotherapy and radiation to reduce the size of remainder of the tumors.  
As difficult as it was to hear this news from the doctors over the last week, it was even more difficult telling Lyla and Amelia about their dad's diagnosis.  They of course are worried and have lots of questions that we just can't answer yet.  
Brent has been strong during this whole process and his sense of humor is fully intact.
