Brayden Lawson

Brayden is a very outgoing and strong energetic 5 year old little boy who has just been told the worst news of his life so far! When Brayden was 3 years old on a normal visit to the doctor the pediatrician noticed a slight heart murmur! They told mommy that about 70% of children have one and some go away and some don't! Nothing to worry about as of now! As Brayden comes to the spots over the years they will keep an eye on it! Another problem Brayden has quite a bit is that he gets reoccurring ear infections and with this infection Brayden develops a nasty cough! So about a week ago, Brayden developed this nasty whooping sounding cough! Mommy and I noticed that this cough was different from the rest so just kept listening for it to worsen! Well Wednesday night of last week Brayden couldn't sleep at all because of this cough! So mommy thought maybe he has another ear infection and we need to see the doctor! Well Thursday was the doctor apt and while listening to Brayden's heart the doctor heard the murmur and this time it was very prominent and very loud! Sounding super worried he told mommy and I that a echo needed to be scheduled asap for Brayden! So they scheduled it for Monday march 27, 2017 at 1pm! So sure enough we got there and they did the echo the doctor was acting strange and kept texting and calling on his phone so we knew something was abnormal! They told us when the echo was finished that Brayden's doctor is going to look over it and he will call us and let us know what the results are! About 10 minutes later he called and told mommy and I that we needed to leave that section of osf and go immediately to the emergency department because he has a mass on his heart! They then took us back to the child life unit and we were there with no answers to anything for about 4 hours! They then moved us up to the oncology floor of st Jude and that night we finally got the news that Brayden has cancer but not sure what kind! They said that they were going to run some more tests draw some blood and then they would order a biopsy! Well when tests came back the mass is huge in size for how small Brayden is! It measures at 2.5 in tall and about 1.25in thick! It sits right above the heart and is wrapped around the main arteries of the heart! They will not do surgery due to the severity of the danger that it would put Brayden in! Brayden has to remain calm or it could throw him into a coughing attack and could push the mass to block his airway and Brayden could die! So the goal of life right now is too keep Brayden calm!
