Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
Brandon was involved in a skateboarding accident last night. He was going downhill and ran into a pillar.  He presented with all the symptoms of a concussion, and was taken. From college to Memorial Herman in the Medical Center.
Thanks to Sherry Martens who knocked on our door at home to share the news with us. Parents, make sure your phones are not muted at night for this very reason-Brandon's friend and his mother were trying to call us for over an hour.
Upon Brandon coming into the ER, he was sedated due to his combative behavior. They needed to complete an initial exam and couldn't.
Brandon was then transferred to Neuro ICU with the best doctors and nurses we could have ever hoped to have caring for our son.
After 3 c scans and continual monitoring,  Brandon's progress for a brain injury has followed an expected path. He has made some progress today: talking, movement, responding to a couple of commands.  These are a few of the milestones he hit, but he has a long way to go. Although he has called out our family's names,  he has not recognized us as of yet . He did open his eyes for a friend that visited,  but he doesn't know where he is, and his words don't make any organized sense.
We think we have escaped the probability of him having a shunt/pressure monitor placed in his brain, so that is an answer in prayers.
My sweet Brandon is still not himself,  he screams and is extremely agitated bc he has restraints all over him. The nurse asked for a small sedative to help him calm down a bit, however,  the doctors do not think it is the best plan for him.  His behavior is still extreme one way or the other.
Many blessings have occurred today:he is active,  talking, and breathing on his own.  No broken bones in the rest of his body except for a fracture/tear in his left ear.
We ask that you all pray or send your positive thoughts to heal Brandon completely.  Also, please remember our other two children,  Abby and Andrew who have been through a lot today emotionally.  They came to the hospital this morning but felt it was too much for them to handle to return.  Bless their hearts.

Ask for peace, calming sense, and protection. You all are an amazing support group and our words cannot express our gratitude. God is good, all the time.  Many blessings to you all.
