As most of you know Bonnie has been diagnosed wit...h classic Hodgkin’s lymphoma on February 3rd, 2016. Bonnie has been dealing with pain in her lower back since the holiday’s and had other symptoms like fatigue for several months. After a routine visit to the Doctor’s office they conducted an x-ray to check out her back. The x-ray showed a metastasized lesion on her L3 vertebrae and swollen lymph nodes in her abdomen area. Subsequent test and scan’s confirmed the Doctors concern that this was cancer. In addition to this they also identified some bone degeneration in her lower spine. The growth on her spine and the bone degeneration has created a significant amount of pain in her back pinching the main nerve to her right side and is close to damaging her spinal cord.
We are early in the diagnoses and treatment stage of this fight and are conducting a few more tests to make sure the cancer has not spread to the bone marrow, and her heart and lungs are okay before they begin chemo. The Docs are currently trying to manage the pain through medication so that she can avoid back surgery prior to the chemo starting. After a short visit to the hospital last week due to the back pain she seems to be tolerating the pain with the new regiment of medications. More importantly she has gotten her appetite back and is getting much better rest. She is laughing again!
