For those of you who don't know and those who do, here's an update on my dad.

On Friday the 13th, my dad got an initial diagnosis of lung cancer. Last Wednesday, he had a biopsy preformed on his lungs. Today, he met with the oncologist. He found out he has stage 4 fast growing small cell carcinoma. Without treatment, he'd have 5-6 WEEKS left to live. He has decided to undergo chemotherapy and his doctor gives him a MINIMUM of 1 year to live. Some people have lived 5 years with this type of cancer.

All of this started when he got hemorrhagic cystitis from pelvic radiation from 3 years ago. He started passing blood clots and all that fun stuff. This isn't life threatening, just a nuisance, but his urologist suggested the hyperbaric oxygen chamber for help with the bladder healing. In order to get the go ahead for that, he underwent a chest X-ray and was initially diagnosed with pneumonia. One thing led to another and here we are. All of this stuff has happened over the last month. My dad quit smoking over 3 years ago and the doctors wouldn't be surprised if this cancer started within the last year.

The hemorrhagic cystitis was a blessing in disguise.

Please PLEASE keep my family in your prayers and if you're not the praying kind, send good, positive vibes his way. He doesn't feel like talking on the phone, but if you feel the desire to, feel free to send him a text message or a card. He reads all text messages he receives.
