Karen Hennelly Long succumbed to lung cancer on September 3, aged 79, in the comfort of her home in Sarasota, FL, surrounded by her six adult children and loving husband of 57 years. She was born to Dr. John E. Hennelly and Florence Bigalte Hennelly on April 23, 1942 in St. Louis, MO,  while her father was overseas, serving in the US Army during WWII.

She met the love of her life, J. Robert “Bob” Long, on a fateful blind waterskiing date while in college, and married soon after, each knowing they had met each other's soulmate. Her optimism, loving heart, faith and zany sense of humor built the foundation of her flourishing family, as she selflessly supported her husband Bob in every way possible, both in his career endeavors, and at home, working on the day-to-day raising of their six kids.

Always the center and joy of every social gathering, Karen touched the hearts of everyone, old and young, who came to know her. She was a second mom to so many, and a friend to all, connecting with kindness and her irrepressible sense of humor.
She is survived by her husband (Bob), six children (John, Patrick, Michelle, Michael, Kevin, Stephen), brother (William “Bill” Hennelly, 12 Grandchildren, cousins, nieces and a nephew.
