A little background of dad’s illness.  To start with he has had Alzheimer’s for several years and has been at a memory care assisted living facility in Bloomington, MN since Dec. 2, 2019.  He was starting to get comfortable living there and then Covid came about.  The isolation was very difficult for him and he missed his family and friends who could no longer visit him.  Those months were also hard on our family because we missed him also.  Come summer the family was allowed to visit him outside and in October one of the family could see him in his room. Those were welcomed changes for all the family, especially dad. On Thanksgiving mom got the news that the memory care facility was sending him to the emergency room as he had been sick a couple of days.  His symptoms had become mild and they said nothing was conclusive but they did do a Covid 19 test before sending him back to his memory care facility.  The test came back positive and on Saturday he was transported to a covid care facility in Fridley where they could isolate and care for him.  He was there a week before his condition took a turn for the worst and was then moved to Mercy Unity Hospital in Fridley for more specialized care.  He developed pneumonia and stopped eating or drinking.  His need for oxygen was increasing every day.  After blood tests and x-rays they started him on steroids and increased antibiotics. Phone calls and videos are helpful and we are thankful for any way we can connect and get information.  However, it is our hope that this website will help us to stay informed of dad’s daily status along with the encouragement and support of each other while we are unable to be together with dad.  Please keep him in your prayers as well as our mom.
