Friday night, February 5, Bob was home in the evening. He began noticing a tenderness in his neck and great difficulty in swallowing. He and Janet decided if it did not improve overnight, they would seek a doctor Saturday morning. On Saturday morning, they went to a clinic to visit an ENT doctor. The physician was very concerned and ordered a CT scan immediately. After reading the scan, he called Bob and advised him to go to the ER at Katy's Methodist Hospital.
He had determined Bob had a large abcess in his neck that would require emergency surgery. After a blood test revealed a very high white blood count, Bob was prepared for the operating room. They had 3 options to access and drain the infection, one of which was a tracheotomy. Bob so prayed and hoped that would not be necessary. God answered prayer and the doctors were able to access it through his throat. A determination has not been made as to the cause of the infection.
Bob has been in an induced deep sleep, on a ventilator since the procedure.
