For those that know Bob, know he's always been a big, strong guy. In late Spring of 2016, he started to get sick, he had some stomach issues. He went to the doctor in June and was told he had a hemeroid. As time went on, his symptoms just got worse.
He became anemic, couldn't sleep, couldn't eat - it was bad. I watched my big, strong husband - my rock - just get weaker and weaker and sicker and sicker. Finally, he was able to get a colonoscopy to see what was happening. This happened on 10/28/16... at that point, the doctor found a tumor; which was completely unexpected.
Based on the way it looked, the doctor was pretty sure it was cancer and did the biopsy. We got confirmation on 11/2 and he had surgery on 11/4. The tumor was much larger than they thought, about the size of a grapefruit. It perforated the colon wall and everything was completely infected. Explains why he was so sick... the poor guy went from 260 lbs this time last year down to 195 when he went into surgery. The cancer cells went into the lymphnodes and are sitting on top of his bladder and the two main arteries that go down his legs.
Good news is that we got part of the pathology report back. Looks like they got ALL the cancer out of the colon and there was only one lymphnode that was infected with cancer. Woot Woot!!
Tomorrow (11/17) starts the journy at Fox Chase; well, our first consultation anyway.
Thank you for reading Bob's story... please check back for updates and progress. AND - Thank you again for all of your love, support and encouragement!! We couldn't do this without you...
