This will probably come as a surprise to everyone, just as it did for all of us. Bob has always been extremely healthy and active. A few weeks ago, around the 1st of July, Bob's health began to rapidly decline. After many doctors appointments, he was eventually admitted into REX Hospital on July 20th.
We are setting this site up so you can get updates on Bob as it relates to his recent and shocking diagnosis. The original test in the ER came back great but led to a CAT Scan which has detected 7 spots in the brain and some other areas of his body.
The immediate goal was to start full head radiation on Thursday July 20 for 10 days (Radiation is available M-F). Phase 2 was to take the effects from the PET Scan and find the best area to run the biopsy. While there were no large glaring hot spots it has pointed towards Melanoma so they took tissue today in a small procedure on Saturday July 22 to identify the exact cancer.
We should get the results on Monday July 24 on what type of cancer it is and come up with the best treatment for him. He will possibly have the be discharged from REX Hospital and go to a rehab facility for a couple of weeks until he can go home. During this time your support will be appreciated since the kids are out of town and there is a lot on his wife Gail. We are reviewing the best rehab facilities and will possibly have to have Bob go there mid next week.
While we are shocked, sadden and sending out lots of prayers we need your support during these times as I know how many great people Bob has touched through is life. As you know he is tough as nails and such a servant and he is strong and wants to do all he can to beat this as we all do!
We will update as much as we can through the site and will be setting up many trips back to Raleigh to be with him during this fight. Lets come together and pray hard for his healing of this horrific disease that has taken so many lives.
