Welcome to BJ Pfeiffer’s CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Mom/BJ has been battling langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) for the past year (this is her second bout with LCH). With a depleted immune system it seemed she was picking up every little thing and it would become a big thing. In the past month she had been battling CDIF, a throat infection and thrush without much improvement so we finally went to the ER to see if she needed to be admitted. She was admitted at OSU James Cancer Hospital (because she moved to Columbus 3 weeks ago) and had pneumonia, an enlarged epiglottis, thrush, and an infection (fever) they couldn’t pinpoint. After a bone marrow biopsy, the doctors confirmed mom has Acute Myeloid Leukemia. We are still in the process of testing to see if the Leukemia is due to her LCH treatment or if it has a genetic component. We are hoping to start chemo this week once we get her Red, white and platelets up to a healthy level. We hope to know more soon and will keep in touch here so everyone can check in with her.
