Saturday, July 13, at 3:58 a.m., the Batavia Fire Department was dispatched to 327 State Street. Upon arrival, the Fire Department was able to secure all occupants and put out the fire in 20 minutes. One of the occupants, Brendan, was treated for burns and then airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.
Brendan, Jim, Aaron, and Mike had just recently moved into this Batavia home. They had planned on obtaining their renter's insurance on July 15. However, the fire took all of their possessions before the insurance was ever acquired. Brendan has obtained severe burns on 40 percent of his body with extensive therapy, surgeries, treatments, and rehabilitation ahead. Jim, Aaron, and Mike have been displaced, left to find housing on their own, and are without any personal belongings. While Jim, Aaron, and Mike weren't physically injured in the fire, the emotional trauma they're experiencing is significant. Being able to get the psychological help they need is important to their healing process.
