Bill was first diagnosed with Stage 2 colorectal cancer in September 2010.  He received treatments at the Bruno Cancer Center at St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama: chemotherapy, radiation, surgery, and more chemotherapy.  He subsequently went into remission.

Then, in January 2013, Bill was diagnosed with (Stage 4) metatastatic colorectal cancer; it had spread to his liver and both lungs.  At this time, he was referred to the M D Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.  More chemotherapy , liver, and lung surgery followed, both at the BCC and MDA.

Bill was selected for a clinical trial vaccine program at MDA, but after two vaccinations was unable to continue the vaccinations due to continuing cancer growth.  Metastases were discovered in his brain,, and treatment with gamma-knife "surgery" was scheduled for October 31, 2016 at MDA.
