TWO things I KNOW about US (Kansas Hayselden’s)

1)      We have a rock solid faith in God Almighty

2)      WE are always FAMILY first

Tutu went in to the hospital yesterday [08/23/2017] due to a new knee infection.

**** TIME WARP ****

2008-2010 Tom [Tutu] battled with a septic MRSA infection, was without knees for several months… in an out of ICU…in and out of nursing homes… in and out of surgery(s).  Wife Nancy was by his side the ENTIRE time and his children and family and extended family and calabash family and church family, not cousins… etc. etc… Basically the ENTIRE Hayselden village/clan/kingdom!!

Being the Rock SOLID Patriarch that he [Tom/Tutu/Big Tom/Uncle Tommy] is… who has always told us to NEVER GIVE UP!!!  Did not give up and came through with some bumps, bruises, canes... etc… maybe not a rainbow of flying colors… but THROUGH it intact

****  Time warp done ****

Daddy went in for surgery at 1:30”ish”pm on Tuesday 08/23/2017.  We were told that the surgery would last about an hour and he would be sent to recovery.  So, sometime around 3:40pm the Anesthesiologist walked by the waiting room.  At which point we thought he must be in recovery Finally!  Well, no such luck.  After making an inquiry of the waiting room nurse, we discovered that ALL of the Dr's were taking a dinner/rest break.  That “one hour” surgery that started at 1:30”ishpm ended at 6:30”ish”pm.

The surgeon came out to chat with us and update us on the procedure that occurred.  Once they opened up Dads leg, they discovered that the infection was much more advanced than originally suspected.  The decision to just clean it out was abandon and new procedure was started to remove the entire knee.  The cement on knee replacement was no longer secured to the femur or tibia due to the infection which was inside the bones.  In addition to removing the knee a few centimeters on both the femur and tibia were removed below the visible infection.  Rods were inserted into both and locked in place where the joint would be.  Daddy now has a solid stiff leg.  At this time, there are no plans to change that.  There is not enough bone left for a knee replacement, regardless of the plan moving forward a knee is no longer an option.

The permanent loss of mobility and a body part are devastating to anyone.  This is a particularly difficult pill to swallow at the moment considering how much Tom and Nancy LOVE to travel.

As we move forward with a plan and on this journey, you are invited to come along.  We will be using this site as our primary mode of communicating to the all en mass.   Please feel free to leave messages in the guest book and check in as often as you like.
