I can look back now and say the beginning of 'this journey' started probably in Feb, 2016. I had a respiratory cough (that everyone seemed to have at that time) that I never really recovered from. I just felt tired and run down, and over the next months I experienced nausea and loss of appetite; therefore weight loss. In July I started having some stomach/abdominal pain, it was hard to tell which. I saw a provider and started on medication for a 'duodenal ulcer'. I felt better for about 2 weeks and focused on eating better-lots of high protein foods to try and get my strength back, then the pain and exhaustion was back again. I had a Dr. appt. on the morning of Aug. 23rd, and as I was getting ready for the appt. I experienced acute shortness of breath that sent me to the E.R. instead of the clinic. There the chest X-Ray and a CT scan confirmed the presence of 'masses' in my left lung, one of them very large, two in lymph nodes, and also on the left adrenal gland. Since then I have had biopsies, a PET scan and MRI of the brain. The MRI of the brain was good, the PT scan confirmd the initial scans, with the addition of two spots in the peritoneum (lining of the abdominal cavity) and one on the tailbone.
We have met with my Oncologist at CentraCare/Coborn's Cancer Center and reviewed options.
My sister, Ginnie Edden, my daughter JoAnn and I will post Journal updates as able.
