Betty Maranell Schara

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support, words of hope, and encouragement. It is our desire to show Betty how many lives she has touched, how much she is loved, and give her something positive to fight for and we invite you to join us.


On the afternoon of October 19, 2017, we received the devastating news that the doctor found a tumor on Betty's pancreas. The doctor believed that it was contained, but unfortunately a couple days later we received more bad news that it had metasized to her liver. Her final diagnosis is stage IV pancreatic cancer. The positive is that she is seeking treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester where she is currently receiving chemotherapy. Her prognosis depends on how she responds to the chemotherapy. Please keep her and our family in your thoughts and prayers.


As for Betty, she is not letting any of this get her down...as per the usual...she is still planning to move to Buffalo, MN in December to be closer to children and grandchildren and is planning for a big Christmas. We would like to thank all of her friends and loved ones for being so supportive, loving, and encouraging during this difficult and scary time. We would also like to humbly thank her care team for spending their time meticulously caring for her and giving us more time together.
