Betty Belanger

First post: Feb 15, 2018 Latest post: Apr 28, 2018
In September, 2015 Betty Belanger was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer.  Betty & Jerry were living in Florida at the time.  6 weeks after the lung cancer diagnosis, their Florida home was packed up and sold and upon Betty's request, they moved back to Hopkins, Minnesota to be closer to family.  After moving back to Hopkins, Jerry's dementia progressed considerably and a few months ago (December 2017) Jerry moved to a memory care apartment at the Parkshore Senior Community in St. Louis Park, MN.  A few weeks after Jerry moved, Betty moved to an independent living apartment in the building adjacent to where Jerry is so that she could be closer to him and visit him everyday.

Although her lung cancer treatment has gone well the past 2+ years, we have just learned that the cancer has spread to her stomach.  The cancer in her stomach is extensive and aggressive.  After long discussions with her oncologist and family,  Betty has opted to forgo further treatment and has decided to let the cancer run its course.  This past weekend we were informed that she has "weeks, not months" left to live.

As of this writing Betty is at Methodist Hospital and we anticipate that she will be coming home to her apartment mid-week.  She plans to remain at her apartment and will have full-time care in addition to a hospice team.

We will continue to post updates as they occur.
