Dear friends and family,

I am in a very precarious position of having a rare surgery on the opening to my left lung and aorta.

I’ve struggled for decades with bronchitis and pneumonia. Each infection was worse than the one before. Last winter I was hospitalized for a week with double pneumonia just as covid began. I finally saw a pulmonologist who discovered that the mainstem bronchus going into my left lung is not functioning; and my aorta is pushing up against that mainstem bronchus allowing little air in and out. After months of searching, I finally found a trio of surgeons at USC at US who can repair this. They will cut out the section of bronchus that isn’t functioning and will resect it, they will then move the aorta over creating more space for the bronchus to function.

I am scheduled for surgery Nov 23 and 24th. I will be in the hospital for approximately a week and will then stay in the area for another week.

I ask for your prayers during this time and during my recovery. Because of covid I am going down to USC by myself. I am only allowed one person with me during visiting hours. My good friend from college, Monica will be with me during the first week and then my daughter Cherletta will stay with me the second week and accompany me home.
