Bethany was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis when she was seven years old. Three years ago, her colon was removed and everyone expected that would be the "cure" she needed. Shortly thereafter, she was diagnosed with a condition that is sometimes (rarely) connected with Ulcerative Colitis--Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC). The PSC has advanced much more quickly than typical and her quality of life has really declined--so a transplant is necessary. Praise the Lord, her husband Eric is a match!!! The liver is the only organ that can be partially transplanted from a living donor, then will regenerate itself in both the donor and the donee! On Tuesday, May 3rd Bethany will become not only the heart of Eric's heart, but also the liver of his liver!!
Prayer is the best way you can participate in their surgery and recovery!! If you are in the area, they would LOVE to have you visit, once the hospital says it's ok! Bethany also has a GoFundMe page [https://www.gofundme.com/m4932m5w]
). This will be a long haul for both of them--likely 6 weeks of recovery.
For many who do not know, Bethany was also recently diagnosed with Crohn's. They have accepted this new diagnosis with grace and courage.
This is a sweet, young couple--very much in love, committed to one another and committed to Jesus Christ.
