Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting. I started a site for Benton way back in 2005: http:caringbridgeclassic.org/mn/bentonkozlak/index.htm. It has been a undocumented journey with these boys and I probably could have written a book or two by now... However, I will start this story where we are at this moment...

JONATHON: The current health journey started in a couple days before Jonathon's birthday 8/23/2018. Long story short: multiple ED visits, abscesses, sepsis with 107 temperature (8/23), 911, surgery and primary infection discovered in a mitrofanoff trac (10/23), 3 long hospital stays equalling over 40 days, ileus, pic-line for TPN, pneumonia, g-tube continuous feeds, finally back to school (12/17). As of today, TPN 12 hours a day and g-tube feeds 20 plus hours a day at a 16cc/hour rate.

BENTON: The current health journey started when Benton had an urology appointment 12/17 to follow up and establish care with an adult urologist and keep track of his hydro-nephrosis.
During the clinical exams we noticed his left testicle was enlarged. They set us up with an ultrasound of his testicles that same day, after ultrasound, the radiologist came in to let me know that he has a mass in his left testicle not fluid. Talked with Dr Elliot and Benton’s surgery (Orchiectomy)was done 12/21/2018. Probably testicular cancer.
12/28 Pathology report: Cancer-Seminoma- was in the testicle as well as all the way up the cord, this means Benton will need chemotherapy. CT scan and chest x-ray 1/4/2018.
Benton’s appointment with oncology is set for 1/14/2019. I am assuming we will get the results of the CT and chest x-ray at that time. Chris and I had a mini-vaca planned to celebrate our anniversary and visit his Mom and Greg in Arizona. Benton’s new patient oncology appointment is scheduled on the day we were too return. So, seeing there was no other appointments until the 14 we just bought different tickets to return home 12/13. We are grateful we will still be able to runaway for a short time and recharge before this new journey with Benton begins.
