On Sept. 26th, 2017, Ben was taken to the ER at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, IL by his son, Luke, after dealing with severe stomach pain and problems swallowing/eating. After reviewing the x-ray taken at the ER, the doctor discovered a mass in Ben's stomach and immediately used a scope to take photos and a biopsy of the mass. The biopsy revealed that the mass was adenocarcinoma, or stomach cancer, later diagnosed as Stage 4.
