Welcome to Bella’s CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate the prayers and support as we navigate through this new diagnosis .
Here is the background story :
A couple years ago Bella was having extreme pain in her legs to where she would fall. Her pediatrician said it was just growing pains .
In August  of this year I noticed Bella’s left foot turning in . I asked her about it and she said that her back and leg hurt . My first thought was to take her into Shriners where I work , but Seth suggested due to insurance reasons I needed to take her to our  pediatrician.
While at the appointment I pointed out to her doctor that she had a small curve in her spine . She quickly dismissed me and said that she was going to have an X-ray done of her hips . She was looking for hip dysplasia. The X-ray didn’t show hip dysplasia so she said that Bella should just go to PT and she would put the order In. Two weeks passed and I heard nothing .
I wasn’t convinced this was the solution as working at Shriners I’m aware of certain things that I normally wouldn’t if I wasn’t around kids who have orthopedic needs .
I spoke with my co-worker Alex and she told me to make an appointment with one of our spine docs . So that’s what I did . It took a month to get in which is typical . Our doctors are very sought after so new patient appointment and take a few weeks .
When we went to see Dr. Bouton ( who is amazing by the way he decided after looking at the lower back X-ray he wanted a full spine . She indeed has scoliosis. The curve is at a 16 degrees which is not significant enough to start bracing , but he wanted her to start PT. During his exam he pointed out that her left leg didn’t have the reflex and he was concern about her nerves . He put an order in for a MRI , but the wait at our local hospital was 2 weeks out . Once the MRI was complete we made an appointment with Dr. Bouton . That was about 3 weeks ago . The MRI showed that Bella had some fluid on her spine . He then put an order in for us to see a neuro surgeon . Seth and I were thinking she would just need to have some fluid taken out , boy were we wrong !
We were told that referrals for Neuro at OHSU /pediatric takes about two weeks to be looked over . Well, it took 2 days and they called to schedule a few days later which was last week . There we found out that Bella not only has fluid ( there is a lot ) and she has tethered cord syndrome. She will be needing surgery soon . Please pray for her and us as we walk this journey . I will write in the journal and if I have time I will give more details how we have seen the Lords hand in all of this . Jer 29:11
