Becca Freeman

Here is a bit of background...


Becca was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS). Our care started off in Portland Oregon where I made many amazing friends who I continue to keep in contact with. When Becca was 5 months old (March 2007) she spent about 3 1/2 months in mostly the hospital. I stayed at the Ronald McDonald House across the street from the hospital. I did spend many nights in the hospital with her also. 


She has had 5 open heart surgeries, many cath labs, hundreds of echocardiograms, tons of blood draws... x-rays and lots of love! Becca was loved on by the nurses at the hospital and the staff at Ronald McDonald House (RMH). 


Over the years I started 2 Facebook pages, blogs, but decided this might be a better way to keep people informed. I'm hoping this will reach family, friends and others who might be walking down the same road as we are. 


Becca is 14 years old now. She has 2 brothers, one who passed away 7 months before she was born. He was 13 years old. His name is Andrew. He would be 28 years old now. Her other older brother is Dawson. He is 18 months and 4 days older than Becca. 


Due to the fact, that Becca will one day require a heart transplant, and Randall's Children's Hospital in Portland does not do heart transplants, we decided to move care to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City. The reason why one day she will probably need a heart transplant is due to the fact that Becca has an enlarged liver which is a direct cause from the heart defect which causes high pressures in her heart. 


We have been going to Primary Children's for a little over 2 years. This week, Becca and I will head down to have a cath lab and liver biopsy.  It is nice that we have family to stay with. 


I will try to keep up all that is happening in Becca's medical life!
