Welcome to Bear's CaringBridge website.  We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.  We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Bear had diarrhea and vomiting that began on Wednesday, May 30.   By Saturday his stomach was swelling so we took him to Children's Urgent Care on Diley Road.  We were worried that the swelling may be due to a parasite that he could have possibly picked up in the creek earlier in the week.  They referred us to Children's Hospital and upon arrival they immediately began running tests.   The tests were negative for virus and bacteria; however, by Sunday morning results were leaning more towards cancer.  Bear was moved to the Oncology floor as they continued to run tests and by Sunday evening  the cancer was confirmed through a paracentesis procedure in which one liter of fluid was drained from his abdomen.  We still did not know what kind of cancer or to what extent.  Doctors began to discuss additional procedures that would need to take place on Monday.
