Many of you know that my odyssey with a blood cancer (WM) began in spring of 2012 My ongoing battle has included three chemo regimens of 5-8 months each over the five year period. While I have had a good response after each of the first two treatment cycles, I also experienced a recurrence (2 years after the first and 14 months after the second).

I just concluded my third treatment regimen and am now being prepped for an autologous transplant of cells that were harvested and frozen in 2013, after my initial treatment concluded. Becky and I head to Rochester Mayo where I will undergo several scans, X-rays and examinations, over a period of four days, to verify that I am healthy enough to undergo the transplant. If it is confirmed that I should move forward, we will spend 4-5 weeks there, including a week when I will be in the hospital in a compromised immune system state, after several rounds high intensity chemo. The cells will be infused after the last round of chemo. The remainder of the time will be spent as an out-patient receiving daily lab and vital checks until blood related counts reach an acceptable level for discharge.

We appreciate the prayers and thoughts that many of you have offered as I and my family have endured this health issue over the years. We ask for your continued support as we enter this phase of treatment. We remain grateful for the access we have to healthcare, providers and ever improving science in the treatment of diseases like mine. We are also thankful for the great provider whose hands are on us and ordering the steps of all involved in the process.
