After going to the ER with severe abdominal pain, Barb underwent surgery to remove a ruptured hemorrhagic (bleeding) ovarian cyst. The surgeon found ovarian cancer upon performing the procedure. Barb has since undergone multiple surgeries and testing, and we are now working with a diagnosis of stage II ovarian cancer. Barb will start chemotherapy this week and will have one round of chemo each week for eighteen weeks. After chemo, we will re-evaluate her cancer and determine any need for further surgery, chemo, or radiation. Barb is being treated at Avera by a wonderful oncologist named Dr. Rojas.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! For everyone's ongoing support and prayers! We girls feel quite lucky that Barb is the woman she is, because we know that she is fierce (which we will need to kick the cancer) and kind (which has led her to amazing friendships that uplift her spirits).
