On Saturday morning March 4th 2017. Barb mention that it felt like she could not feel her legs. She was having trouble walking. Later in the day around 2 o'clock she tried to get up out of bed and her legs buckled underneath her and she fell down on all fours. We called the ambulance and they came and took her to United Memorial Hospital in Greenville. They diagnosed her with the flu first of all. And then after more test they discovered she had a condition known as transverse myelitis. https://www.ninds.nih.gov/Disorders/Patient-Caregiver-Education/Fact-Sheets/Transverse-Myelitis-Fact-Sheet#3234_1
Later that day she was transferred to Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. She has been there ever since. She's undergoing various treatments including steroids and tomorrow we start a plasma exchange therapy. She's making slow progress and the prognosis is that this will be a thing that takes a long time to recover from. She will need long-term care in therapy the months to come in best case scenario. I've created this site to try to keep everyone posted as to her conditions and any changes.
