Welcome to our CaringBridge website for Barb Brown.  On November 3rd she was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer.  We will try our best to keep this site up to date with current information about her status, treatment plan and road to recovery.  Thank you everyone for all of your thoughts, prayers, words of encouragement and support through this very difficult time for our family.

We brought mom to the emergency room on Thursday, October 29th after she had been having headaches, extreme fatigue and confusion for several weeks. We had also noticed weight loss and a change in her personality and mood. They did a CT scan of her head which showed 2 lesions in her brain. From there they sent her to Regions hospital where additional CT scans of her chest and abdomen as well as an MRI on her head were done. Those showed 2 additional lesions in the lung/chest area as well as 1 on her adrenal gland of her kidney.

She was released from the hospital Friday evening and got to spend the weekend at home with the family. On Monday November 2nd she had a biopsy of the mass in her right lung which was diagnosed as metastatic small cell lung cancer.

She returned to Regions Hospital on November 4th to have a craniotomy for resection of the lesion on her right frontal lobe. They will be running pathology on the brain mass to determine if it was caused by the lung cancer. She is expected to remain in the hospital for 3-4 days after surgery for observation.

Post surgery follow up appointments are scheduled for November 18th and 20th to discuss further surgical and non-surgical treatment options including radiation on the remaining lesions.

The team at Regions Hospital have been great and we know mom is in great hands!
