Hi Family & Friends of Barbara!

Things have progressed quickly in the past three weeks. Mommy went in for a routine doctor's appointment on Friday, June 21. Her doctor determined she had a fever and sent her down to the ER in the building, where they diagnosed her with pneumonia. At the time, she had no other symptoms. Her health has declined rapidly over the past three weeks, and her poor body just hasn't been able to recover.

Mom was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2014 and through various treatments (surgery, radiation, immunotherapy), it has been under control since then. But, the damage to her lungs just won't allow her to heal as needed, so through consultations with her doctors, we've made the decision to enter hospice care.

After three weeks in the hospital, Mom has been released and is home now. She is receiving excellent care...a lot of it from alumni of The University of Texas School of Social Work program!

We (Barbara, Tonja, Phaedra, Jay, & Mallory) are grateful to have the love and support of so many of you. Right now, we're just trying to get everything situated and are working with two great groups, Assisting Hands and Hospice Austin. These great resources have definitely made the load a lot lighter.

Please feel free to leave us messages here and we will do our best to respond and/or pass them along to Mom in a timely manner.

Again, thank you so much for the support. Here we go...
