What Barbara Is: Barbara Hanson-Castro is an IT Service Lead for Business and Supply Chain Systems at The Boeing Company, St. Louis, MO. she lives in Saint Charles with her husband, Manny Castro, Jr., retired, her daughter Regina Castro, a free-lance editor and grad student, and two fur-babies, a dog Leather and a cat Lace.
Who Barbara is: I am a Christian white woman living in a state I did not grow up in. I have a husband and daughter of color, and so I have a different perspective on race and race relations than the 'average' white person. I see beauty and shame in the state I grew up in; I see beauty and shame in the state I live in now. That is also who I am - a Lutheran, both saint and sinner. I have always been Christian, and have grown in my Christian faith on Kairos time. That growth has led, and I hope will continue to lead, to tolerance, love, collaboration, and a gift called graciousness. Regina helped God bring patience.
Barbara's Diagnosis: Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, Double-Hit. Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. MYC gene rearrangement, gain of BCL2 gene, and loss of 5'BCL6 gene. Extra-nodal. As of 2018, during my recurrence, one of my oncologist told me that the Diffuse Large B-Cell lymphoma is now called High Grade B-cell Lymphoma.
