Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
Some of you know Mom's story from the beginning how ever some of you are just hearing of it now.  Barbara was diagnosed with a Right Thalamic Occipital Tumor/Cancer in February 2016 after sudden onset of seizures.   She spent over a week in the hospital with the doctors trying to figure out what was going on.  After several MRI's, CT scans, Lumbar Punctures and EKG's she was finally diagnosed.
Unfortunately where the tumor is and the shape of it surgery was not an option.  Mom started 5 and 1/2 weeks of Radiation treatment in March 2016 which seemed to have worked for a little bit of time.  In September 2016 she began taking a form of Chemo at home; 5 days taking the pills and 23 days off.  The pills were taken along with an anti nausea pill and at night so it would lessen the side effects that usually come with Chemo.  She took this for 8 months and at the beginning of May we found out that it was not longer working.
The day after the Dr's appt. mom fell; she fell again twice in the following 2 days resulting in a broken right hip.  Mom had emergency surgery for a replacement hip and was sent to rehab.  She has been in rehab since May 10th and seemed to be doing well; however the cancer seems to be taking over the left side of her body.  We visited with the Oncologist yesterday (6/15/17) and she felt that Barb's body was already in a weakened state and that starting an IV Chemo would not be the best option and that Hospice and making her comfortable would be for the best.
As most of you know my mom is a SUPER tough/stubborn lady and has fought this with an amazing strength...
Thank you all for your continued support and love
Missy
