Barbara Kaufman has been teaching the creative process—exploring with adults and children—for over 35 years. She is cofounder and executive director of the Center for Creative Expression, where for the past 18 years she has been dedicated to helping individuals connect with a deep stream of life energy and to creating a community that supports and nourishes the creative journey.
Through the years Barbara has stood side by side with her students in the CCE painting studio, supporting them, guiding them gently (or firmly, if needed) on their journey of inquiry. Witnessing as they push the boundary of what’s comfortable, as they take risks, as they leave what’s familiar to enter the unknown.
In June of 2017, Barbara was diagnosed with colon cancer that had spread to the liver. In a letter to her students, she wrote, “I am used to keeping my life as private as possible, but the changes that are happening will affect many people and the studio. I can only do each next step that arises, although my mind keeps jumping ahead quickly. Great uncertainty. . . . For now I ask that you hold all advice and stories. I get overwhelmed easily with all the information. Your prayers are most welcome.”
This CaringBridge site is a place for all who care about Barbara to stay in touch, to learn about how she is doing, to support her and the painting community that is woven into the fabric of so many lives.
