Mom was diagnosed with a severe case of Pneumonia on 3/15/16. Since then she has developed ARDS which is a very serious and debilitating disease caused by the trauma to her lungs from the pneumonia infection. She has a very long road to recovery - this will include learning how to breathe on her own, talk, eat, and walk all over again. Her recovery will take weeks/months in a long-term acute care (LTAC) facility. Currently, it's too soon to know how extensive her recovery will be until she starts doing all of her rehabilitation. Worst case scenario she doesn't make a huge improvement from where she is now, and the best case scenario is that she gets to come home with very, very minor disabilities (which of course is what we all hope for!). She has spent about 20 days in the ICU so far and her journey is not over. She is a strong woman with an even stronger heart. She can pull through this!
