On Monday, January 25, 2016 my mother had a stroke. I woke up to her screaming my name. She had been attempting to go to the bathroom but could not sit up, she kept falling to her right side. I utilized the F.A.S.T. technique to assess if she was having a stroke and called 911. But she still wanted to go to the restroom, so I put a tub under her. When we arrived at Methodist her speech seemed better and she could raise her right arm a little more than she did at home. The neurologist informed me that mom had a blood clot in the back of her brain and about 5% of her brain was affected. He said with therapy she should be able to recover. This is where we are now, at a nursing home where she can get physical therapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy to help her improve at her own pace.
