LUCIENS STORY

Baby Lucien was born September 27,2018 this is where our journey begins. We went in to be induced via C-section. Once Lucien was born we took pictures and welcomed our handsome man to the world. We were so ecstatic and overjoyed it was such an amazing moment. After that he went to do his normal testing and whatnot. This is when the Drs noticed his oxygen levels weren’t that great. The cardiologist did further testing and the Drs came up with the plan. We were then informed that baby Luke’s needed to be air lifted to Birmingham Children’s hospital to undergo open heart surgery. His diagnoses was Double outlet right ventricle with transposition of the greater arteries and VSD (congestive heart failure). This was the worse news I could have ever got. I was so emotional. Words can’t describe the amount of pain we felt in this moment. However we just wanted what was best for our baby boy. The drs did even  more testing then decided that it would be best to wait until Lucien was a little older to do surgery. He stayed in the NICU for 6 days. On April 9th he has his surgery. Everything went well during the surgery. After that we had quite a few complications. We have been in and out of the hospital several times. Lucien has been transported  to the hospital for many things such as Endocarditis (an infection that spreads through the bloodstream and attached to areas in your heart), heart arrhythmias (improper beating of the heart), and also a Seizure with a temp of 103. This hasn’t been an easy journey for baby Lucien. However he is one strong happy baby. There hasn’t been one day he hasn’t had a smile on his face. He is our little superhero. I swear he is the happiest baby I’ve ever met. He can brighten anyone’s day with just one smile. There is strength in family. With all of us together we can achieve anything. We will continue to take it one day at a time and make the best of any and all situations. Thanks for reading our story
