Lena was born at 5:15 a.m. on Sunday morning January 22, 2017. She weighed 7 lbs. 11 oz and is 20.5" long. Very soon the doctor noticed the she was not a good color and suspected a congenital heart defect known as "d-transposition of the great arteries" or TGA. This condition is typically discovered by ultra sound prior to birth. However in Lena's case it was not and by God's blessing the NICU doctor found it. He immediately called the cardiologist on call, Dr. Becker who is on staff at Mercy Medical Center. Dr. Becker was in Lena's room within 20 minutesand confirmed the diagnosis. We are so thankful for the quick and alert action by both doctors. We decided to have Lena transferred to Mercy where she awaits the return home of the surgeon who will perform the operation on Monday Jan. 30th. We are thankful for the expert and timely action of the doctors this morning and for the good care that Lena is receiving now at Mercy Medical Center.
