Summer Jane Rawlings Baby Girl Rawlings

First post: Jul 24, 2018 Latest post: Sep 16, 2019
Summer celebrated her First Birthday on August 8th! During year one she has battled influenza, pneumonia, ear infections, and several viruses. She also battled heart rhythms for one of her trips to the ICU, but overall her heart has been stable, and she has been making progress in therapy.  She has been going to several doctors appointments in preparation for surgery for her club feet and cleft palate.

Friday, September 13, 2019 Summer became suddenly unresponsive and was rushed to Greenville ER.   She had a seizure and was diagnosed with sepsis and immediately intubated, place on a ventilator and IV supportive medications.  The doctors and nurses fought hard that afternoon and were able to get her stabilized just as they were on the phone with Charleston making plans to transport her to MUSC by plane.  Earlier, when she became unresponsive Amy happened to be across the street from the GHS hospital, taking her to an appointment and happened be an hour early. Grateful friend Libby was with Amy, and she wasn’t alone.  Grateful that Amy's lack of sleep and God pushed her up to Greenville sooner.  Summer has remained stable to date which is great news, but she is very very sick. We still do not know the cause of this overwhelming infection affecting essentially all of Summer's organs. Fortunately, Summer's Heart is not an issue currently, which is a blessing.  Doctors have told us to expect a long Peds ICU and hospital stay as they support her and help her body heal from this very very serious infection.

Amy and Brett thank you for all your thoughts and prayers... our sweet Summer Jane sure is loved and we are very grateful.

From July 22, 2018 (when site originally created)
Baby Girl Rawlings was diagnosed with a heart defect several months ago and they have been monitoring her weekly with ultrasounds. She had her follow up fetal echocardiogram mid July and the cardiologist determined a different heart defect that means that she would need  heart surgery soon after she was born. Now Amy will need to go to Charleston to MUSC to deliver her. They will travel to Charleston this week to stay with their close friend Clair Shorter and their family until delivery.  MUSC appointments are Tuesday July 24th - they will meet with pediatric cardiologist, maternal fetal medicine, and NICU determine a plan for delivery in the next week or two.

They are incredibly grateful for family and friends and  the support we’ve had! Please keep this precious little family in your prayers!
