Wednesday, September 7 will go down in the record books as the worst and best day of our lives. It all began around 3 p.m.   Lindsay had her first contraction while at work but didn't know at the time that's what it was.  She went out to eat that night with friends and had a couple more contractions.  She thought they were just Braxton Hicks contractions and figured it was no big deal.  They were starting to get more frequent and painful so Lindsay called her OB around 10:15 pm and we decided it would probably be a good idea to come to the hospital to get checked out.  We arrived at the Mercy hospital at 11:00 pm and shortly after they got her into a room.  The contractions became more frequent and intense. The nurse took a look and discovered Lindsay's water bag was bulging.  The doctor quickly rushed in and informed us they were going to have to do an emergency C-section and deliver the baby.  Since it all happened so fast, the doctors did not have time to scrub Nick in to go in the delivery room  and the had to completely knock Lindsay out. They rushed Lindsay off and about 30 minutes later the doctor came out to tell Nick that we had a baby boy at 12:29 am.  Being only 24 weeks and 4 days old, he weighed just 1 lb 4 oz and measured 12" long.  Gavin was quickly rushed to the NICU where Nick was brought up to meet him for the first time.  Lindsay did not get to meet him until almost 3:45 am because she was recovering from surgery.  After a 4 day stay in the hospital, Lindsay was discharged.  Gavin has a long road ahead of him in the Mercy NICU and we like to remind him how great of hands he is in here and the love and support he has from friends and family.
