Welcome to Axel's CaringBridge website. Raleigh and Marilyn are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.  Please leave as much as you'd like here to minimize overload to Brandi and Waid. Thank you for visiting.

Axel is almost 4. He reminds us often that his birthday is "when it gets cold," though in Colorado that doesn't always mean December. On 11/3/21 Brandi took Axel to get some blood tests to see what his symptoms were all about in the last month. He'd been complaining of leg pain and fatigue, he got a really big nose-bleed, his color had been 'off,' and he just wasn't his usual energetic, rambunctious self. The results at that time confirmed that he had Leukemia and needed to be flown to Denver that night.

Further tests have confirmed that Axel has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) and that he has "standard risk" because the cancer cells are in his blood and bone marrow, but not in his cerebral spinal fluid. He has a chemo port implanted in his chest for further infusions; he's had several small doses already.

As of 11/7/21, the family is looking forward to discharge on Tuesday, but they will be staying near the hospital in Denver for the next month for continued treatments. ALL has a 90% recovery rate in childhood. Axel will beat this! All of the prayers, positive vibes, energy, and thoughts of goodness and healing are appreciated.  We are #axelstrong!!!
