Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. Austin’s parents, Ron and Krissy, are overwhelmed right now. Many people care about Austin and want to keep updated but they are not able to keep up with all the individual updates so we will refer everyone to this site so you can follow along and know what you can specifically pray for to uplift Austin and his family in this time of need. Austin has a younger sister, Jordan and an older brother, Zack. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

On Monday, January 3rd Austin suffered an asthma attack at home. While on the way to the hospital with his dad Ron, Austin lost consciousness. Ron quickly notified EMS and shortly thereafter the ambulance met them at the vehicle. Austin had suffered cardiopulmonary arrest and required several minutes of CPR both en route to Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha as well as while in the emergency department. The medical team was able to get his heart beating again but Austin had to be intubated and placed on a ventilator. In the ER his covid test was negative and his chest X-ray was unremarkable. His electrolytes were a little off so the crew was addressing those issues. The medical team kept him heavily sedated and due to the cardiopulmonary arrest his body temperature was brought down several degrees to protect his brain for the first 48 hours.

There wasn’t much progress while he was being chilled. On January 5th Austin was warmed back up to normal temperature and had several tests completed. His head CT reveals some brain swelling. His EEG (brain wave test) showed decreased activity. The neurologist informed Ron and Austin’s mother Krissy that he has brain damage. To what extent is yet to be determined. The next 3-5 days will allow the team more information to give a reliable prognosis. Austin also had a procedure to remove the iv that was placed in his tibia bone and had broken off in the bone. This needed to be removed prior to his MRI which will be on Thursday Jan 6th.

Specific prayers tonight, January 5th:

Pray for the swelling to go down in Austin’s brain. Pray for for him to start waking up and for small amount of manageable brain damage. Pray for his family that may be surround by strength and comfort that will help them navigate through this time of trial. Pray that his mom can find some sort of small rests throughout the day to keep her going and give her strength and for her to be able to tolerate some nutrition to build her strength to keep going. Pray for his dad, Ron, to be able to find rest to recharge his energy. Pray for his siblings to find strength and comfort in your holy name. Let them know that Austin is in your almighty hands and you will be with him every step of the way. Allow them to be able to understand what their parents are going through and that they would gladly switch places with Austin in a heartbeat. Let them get a grasp on the fact that Krissy will not leave Austins side yet because she is afraid something will happen when she is gone and she can’t fathom not being there. It’s a a mom’s love that is stronger than any woman’s love in this world.

Many people have asked how they can help support the family. God Bless you for thinking of them. The best thing they need at this time are food gift cards and gift cards to places that make smoothies. Smoothies are about the only thing we get down Krissy. They are by most everything so anything else would work. Unfortunately The McDonald’s will have extensive medical bills which will spread them very tight. I believe you can send gift cards and make donations directly to the family on this site. I will let you know more in the morning.
