On October 23, 2017 Austin was transported to St. Cloud Hospital via ambulance. He was found to be in severe diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). As the night moved into the morning he developed severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Both conditions can be devastating but ARDS has an incredibly high mortality rate. Austin remains in the intensive care unit at the St. Cloud Hospital.
