3 days before Christmas Nick and Charlene received the phone call that every parent would rather die than receive. It was the middle of the night and it was the hospital lab calling to tell them to get to Seattle Children's Hospital as fast as humanly possible. They could not afford to wait another minute because Aurora's unrelated cold and cough had lead the doctors to find a fast growing cancer in Aurora's blood. Aurora has Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML). AML is an aggressive form of Leukemia that is terminal if not found and treated within the first few months. Aurora's cancer had progressed significantly but fortunately was found in time to give treatment a fighting chance. However, it will not be an easy road. It will require Aurora to endure five separate four-week chemotherapy treatments over the next 6 months. Most likely Aurora will not be able to leave the hospital during that time.
