As many of you may or may not know my mom (Athanasia) was diagnosed with cancer on her tongue back in 2018. She had her first surgery in September of 2018 where they removed part of her tongue and many lymph nodes on the left side of her neck. She went through chemo and radiation and things were looking good. It was only about 6 months after that she had another CT scan to check how things were going and we found another small spot on the right side of her neck, we went ahead and she had her 2nd surgery in April of 2019. As expected that surgery went well too, and things were going well again. She did chemo and radiation for the second time. As we thought things were going well we as a family were taken by surprise as they found a spot on her lung, we had hope as the doctors did as well that the spot on her lung was scar tissue. When we got the news back we found out it was not scar tissue it was once again cancer. We once again kept our hopes high that this too could pass. Needless to say this 3rd round of cancer has taken her and our family on a roller coaster of a ride.

The cancer that she has creates calcium tumors throughout her body, and it is very painful. We found a treatment that was working out for awhile but eventually like everything else it stopped working after awhile. We were still hopeful as we were told there was still a couple options we could try. As for the trial that we were hopefully for may not be the right option, I’m writing this page for all of us to find comfort and strength in each other as we take this final journey together.
