Ashley began to have some serious symptoms that took her to Children's Hospital in early May: facial numbness, having a hard time enunciating words and eating, and muscular weakness causing difficulty with walking. She would worsen each day. After doctor appointments, ER visits, bloodwork, MRI, and a spinal tap - it was confirmed she has Guillain-Barre syndrome. It's a rare disorder in which your body's immune system attacks your nerves. She has been tested and found to be positive for mono (Epstein Barr) which could be a a culprit for the onset of GBS (Guillain-Barre Syndrome)- sort of like an over active response to fight one illness which then goes hyperactive and ends up fighting against the good stuff in the body. Recovery will be a long process, but we are so encouraged as she's beginning to make small improvements daily.
We are using this space to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your prayers, support, and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you so much for walking alongside our family. Ultimately, we hope that this site will be a source of encouragement for Ashley as she is able, in the future, to read all these updates of her progress and see God's hand through it all! Your comments will be a sweet memory as well - seeing the body of Christ love her so deeply along the way. We are so thankful for you!
