Welcome! Thanks so much for joining our family in Asher's journey! He is an incredibly loved and strong little boy! The Mighty Quinn :) We are using this CaringBridge site to update family and friends in one place. In an effort to protect Ryan and Rachel's energy and time, we ask that you use this forum to get updates on Asher's progress.
In early 2021, Ryan and Rachel shared the amazing news that they were expecting their first child. Rachel's pregnancy was smooth (and anyone who knows Rachel knows that she was a picture of health and wellness!). At the 20 week anatomy ultrasound, it was discovered that Asher had a congenital heart defect, Double Inlet Left Ventricle. It was obviously shocking, but Ryan and Rachel continued in their excitement to welcome their son to the family at the end of the year. There were lots of appointments and preparation. Asher arrived on the scene six weeks early on 10/21/21. He weighed 3 lbs 5 oz and came out crying! He was immediately taken to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, where he spent two months in the NICU growing and amazing us daily. The extended family has been grateful to sneak in some snuggles and visits these past months. There were some up and down moments during his NICU stay, resulting in a couple of procedures, including a stent placement to help optimize Asher's circulation for more growth. Both Ryan and Rachel (and Asher's medical team) regularly comment on how big of a personality Asher has! He LOVES to eat, has started rolling, smiles and coos and is always making himself known!
At the end of 2021, Asher graduated from the NICU and was moved to the cardiac floor. Ryan and Rachel have been by Asher's side daily, loving and snuggling, and supporting Asher during this unpredictable rollercoaster of a ride!
As updates become available, we will post them here. Much love to you al!
