Thanks for joining us on Asha's  CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of  encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
Asha has had dermoid cyst on her nose since birth, not visible to the naked eye. Texas docs were unconcerned about it but as soon as she had her first medical visit  in Wisconsin the doc definitely wanted to follow up on it.  They have been monitoring it through various mris and other forms of imaging. Because she has a little canal that leads into the brain, she can be at risk for infection, both a neurosurgeon and an ent will perform the surgery.  Second opinions were sought, and all docs reached the same conclusion.
It is not an insignificant surgery, lasting some 5-6 hours, one night in ICU followed by two days on a regular pediatric post-op floor. She will head home for long recuperation of 4-6, weeks, during which time she will be able to do a tiny bit of walking, but no active activities.
