Dear ***, Arnold is soon leaving for India where an urgent liver transplant will be done. Arnold Linus Rapango has been battling, for the last one year and 1/2 liver disease (Budd-Chiari syndrome) a rare syndrome that affects 1 person out of a million. He has been in and out of hospital and diligently observed his clinics.  In his last admission, in Dicember 2017, he suffered one of the complications - spontaneous bacterial peritonitis and a concomitant acute renal injury. He had since required close monitoring and he was placed in the high dependency unit for dialysis. At discharge from the hospital, doctor recommneded an immediate planning of his liver transplant and after evaluating the cost and time frame, we opted to take him to Chennai India. Arnold will leave as soon the Visa will be ready. Therefore, he might leave with his donor and medical attendants latest this week, or early next week. We estimate that the cost of his medical treatment could reach Kshs 6 million (60,000USD) inclusive of outstanding medical bills at Aga Khan Hospital and related expenses in India. Due to the several clinics he has been attending his insurance cover has unfortunately run out. Additionally NHIF although helpful is insufficient. As his family we are contributing and reaching out to our friends, well wishers  and foundations to help Arnold meet this bill.
