Welcome to our CaringBridge website for Art.  We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.

We appreciate your words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting!

The 50 year old CPA, systems analyst, father of 2 late teen daughters,

former sports and exercise enthusiast was slowed in recent years by

metastatic prostate cancer. Reduced to disability in August 2016,

transitioned care from Mass. General Hospital (MGH) to visiting Care

Dimensions hospice nurses in September 2016, when treatments deemed no

longer effective.

Enjoyed visits all Fall from a wide range of friends, family, neighbors, and former

colleagues - plus generous meals and assistance from many! Looking forward

to the holiday season, and a 50th birthday in mid-January.

UPDATE: moved on Tuesday January 24th from my 10 Glover Sq. Marblehead residence

to Care Dimensions' 24/7 hospice facility, the Kaplan Family Hospice House.  My

Room 4 crib at Kaplan is spacious and well-appointed, complete with fridge, patio, pull out

couch, wingback chair, dining table and chairs, flat screen TV (with ESPN, NFL Network,

and 100+ other channels), and other creature comforts. The large Kaplan common areas

leading to my Room 4 are equally impressive, with gas fireplace, dog therapy nook,

dining area, large kitchen, extensive hanging artwork, small chapel, library, large populous

fish tank, multiple sitting areas spread across the 3 wings, and more.

More important, the Kaplan hospice care provider teams are terrific and compassionate,

tending to virtually all patient needs.  Enough so that immediate family anxieties were

quickly appeased, seeing skilled docs and nurses closely monitor my vitals and pain management

coupled with aides at the ready for personal care.  Visitors this winter are greeted pleasantly by

reception area volunteers showing friends the way to Room 4.  Many other volunteers happily

bring their own talents to bear, from music or massage therapy to baby sitting, dog visits,

Raki, private fund raising, and much more.

Even with such stellar facilities and care, friendly visits are savored, for conversation, games,

cocktails, and all forms of laughter!  Look forward to seeing you rockin' Art's Room 4 crib!
