How did I get here?  How did I end up with a caring bridge page?  It was a cold.  I get them all the time.  I work at a small Catholic School in the Chicagoland area, I'm the administrative assistant and part time unqualified nurse.  The sniffles once in a while are just part of the job.  But this.  This cold wouldn't go away.  I went in to a couple of minute clinics, an immediate care doctor, and eventually an internist.  Sinus infection, yeah that's what I thought.  Nope, still have it, here are some more drugs.  Oh, sounds like it's become bronchitis.  Hmm, still got it?  Why don't you go to the hospital for a chest x-ray.  In the ER was the first time I heard the word cancer.  I've heard that word a lot since.

I used to hear about how funny and sarcastic I am.  Now I hear that I am brave and strong.  I'd like all four of those things to remain true through this whole thing, let's see if I can't manage it.
