At the beginning of May our beautiful Mom (Ann "Evelyn" Bourgeois Hymel) was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. After consulting with her doctors, and weighing out the options, she opted for surgery. This surgery, called the "whipple" was done on June 27th and performed at Tulane Medical Center in NOLA by Dr. Douglas Slakey, where she remains in SICU.  Despite her age, Dr. Slakey explained to us that she was a good candidate for this procedure because she has always been in good health.  So, with much thought and lots of prayers, she has embarked on this journey with a positive attitude and placing it all into the hands of God. Of course, we are worried and scared, after all -- she is our Mother and has always been the heart and soul of our family...but, we accept and stand by her decision and we ask God to hold her in His loving arms and guide her through this safely.  We welcome you to our CaringBridge site. We've created it to keep friends and family updated.  We want you all to know that we appreciate your love, support and all the kind words of hope and encouragement that we have received during this time when it matters most. Join us on this journey keeping our precious Mom in your prayers for a safe and uneventful recovery.....
